Hop Madness

Calling all hop heads! Hop Madness has returned! Our blind IPA tasting is here! Hop Madness is our annual month long blind flight tasting. The first week of IPAs begins with Austin’s finest from March 5th to March 11th. The second week of flights are from the state of Texas outside of Austin. The third round are national IPAs from east to west and a couple from from middle America. For the final take off it will be all the winners from those three rounds and the highest voted runner up. This round will decide what beer goes on for the month of April! Let the best IPA win! Cheers!

Join the Annual Report Review Committee
Want to help out your co-op? Passionate about transparency? Curious about the Board’s work?  Have we got the committee for you! Active from late February through early June, the Annual Report Review Committee will review the co-op’s 2017 Annual Report to Owners to ensure that it is understandable, accurate, and meets the requirements of the Texas Business Organization Code. The work typically requires email communication and 1-3 in person meetings at the pub. To find out more or join the committee, email the committee’s chair at kyle.voosen@blackstar.coop

The Impossible Burger Lands at Black Star

For those of us who have been friends and fans of Black Star’s vegetarian options, you’re probably more than aware that we have gone through many iterations of the good ol’ veggie burger. On the menu, off the menu, beets and black beans, we always seemed to come annoyingly close to a delicious, hearty product. And while we haven’t had an actual vegetarian burger on the menu in quite some time, we consistently offer a handful of items that can be made vegan or vegetarian, while the Avocado Club remains one of the best vegetarian sandwiches in town (and know that your opinion is wrong if you disagree). Then, one by one, our epicurious group of Team Leaders started to learn about the Impossible Burger. Whether we had scrolled over a suggested Instagram post (#blessed), or stumbled across a Vice video because we still haven’t had the wherewithal to completely break up with the media conglomerate, we knew that the Impossible Burger was something that could satisfy returning vegetarians, as well as potentially attract a new fan base. read more

Kellerbier

You may be asking, “What is a Kellerbier?” Well, simply put, a Kellerbier is a lager that is served neither pasteurized or filtered(in our case clarified) so that it is slightly hazy and still contains some yeast in suspension. Inspired by my recent trip to Germany, we have decided to hold a special event that is in celebration of this yeasty beverage where we will be filling, cellaring and subsequently serving a portion of our Pilsner, Midtown Light, out of a 15 gallon wooden barrel. read more
